A question that I get asked all the time is, "How do I wash my dish towels?"
Dish towels get dingy, they smell, they have stains on them, and people often wonder, "what am I doing wrong?"
Dish towels are super easy to care for, and you should be able to use use them confidently. You don't want to have to use disposables or paper towels, because dish towels are so much nicer.
Watch How to Wash Dish Towels
Always Wash Dish Towels With Oxygen Bleach
The first thing I do is I always, always, always put oxygen bleach in the load when I’m washing a dish cloth. Always. I throw a tablespoon of oxygen bleach in, because even though the washing machine will get everything sterile, so many of the things you wipe up in the kitchen are organic. You wipe up a red wine stain or blueberries, and oxygen bleach is what will remove those stains. So always oxygen bleach and soap flakes in the washing machine when I’m washing dish towels.
Removing Stains From Dish Towels
The other thing is if I have a stain, I will take my Stain Bar, and my Horsehair Brush, and I will scrub the little stains.
But if you’ve been cooking dinner and you have seven or eight dish towels, and you’ve been using them hard, like you know, you have been just been going to town: here is the magic trick. It’s something you're going to take from the kitchen to the laundry room.
Grab Some Baking Soda!
Throw a fourth of a cup of baking soda in with your oxygen bleach and your soap flakes, and your dish towels will come out perfect! They will look like the day you bought them.
Fun little side trick: if you are cooking Easter dinner; Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, etc… Fix yourself a pail somewhere, and put water and oxygen bleach in it. Just hot water and a tablespoon of oxygen bleach.
When you're done with the dish towels, just toss them in there and then take the whole thing up to the laundry room. Dump the bucket and everything into the washing machine, add some baking soda and some soap - turn it on. Super easy!
